Afruz Amighi

Afruz Amighi served as Artist-in-Residence in partnership with the Intersections program at the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa.

During her residency she began a new body of work experimenting with subject matter related to her research at Shangri La and the collections. She presented a public lecture at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa on November 10, 2010. She conducted studio visits and advised graduate students from the university’s art department. Amighi was born in Tehran and currently lives and works in New York. She has exhibited her work internationally and in 2008 was awarded the Jameel Prize by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work explores the social and political history of Iran with references to traditional Islamic art.
