Reporting to the DDF president and CEO, the executive director is an experienced leader and operator who will advance a new and more expansive vision for Shangri La as an innovative and influential center that brings together Islamic arts and cultures, a unique destination, and Hawai’i’s distinct setting for local, national and international impact.

The executive director will lead and inspire the staff to identify new and creative ways to harness Shangri La’s unique assets to enable wide and diverse audiences to learn about and benefit from the power of Islamic art. This includes such varied activities as amplifying the center’s role as a convener for important conversations, leveraging digital technology to broaden the reach and audience of the center, identifying and developing curatorial partnerships and artistic residencies that accentuate Shangri La as a place of contemporary inspiration, and developing surprising and dynamic programming to elevate Shangri La’s reputation as a leading center for the study and understanding of Islamic arts and cultures.
