Residency
Kamran Samimi
The Shangri La Museum of Islamic Art, Culture & Design is pleased to announce that Kamran Samimi will be participating in an artistic residency at Shangri La in 2020. Samimi will be creating original artworks that will be on display at both Shangri La and the Honolulu Museum of Art (HoMA). Samimi joins an impressive list of artists, cultural producers, and thought leaders hosted by Shangri La to develop new work, deepen community engagement and demonstrate the museum’s connection to local and global conversations and concern.
Informed with a strong sense of individuality and an interest in universal forms, Samimi’s work encourages the contemplation of identity and one’s relationship to the environment. This perspective is the driving force behind his explorations of change, connections, and the search for the essence of all things. The installation at HoMA will be a physically immersive use of the gallery space, both encouraging and providing a contemplative pause. It will explore absence and presence, connecting viewers visually, physically, and emotionally through the interactions of light, shadow, and form.
