Krithika Rajagopalan

Krithika Rajagopalan is Associate Artistic Director and principle dancer of Natya Dance Theatre based in Chicago. She trained under world-renowned practitioners Hema Rajagopalan and Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan in the traditions of bharatanatyam dance as well as the art of kalari payatu (Indian martial arts) and yoga. Rajagopalan has presented solo performances at a number of prestigious international venues including the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, DC; the Music and Dance Festival of Madras, India; and the National Centre for Performing Arts, Bombay, India. Highlight performance engagements include performances at Chicago’s Millennium Park with acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, and at the World Music Institute in New York.

Rajagopalan’s choreographic credits include: Sita Ram (a rock opera in collaboration with The Lookingglass Theatre and The Chicago Children's Choir), The Flowering Tree, Shakti Chakra, Ahimsa: Toward Non-Violence, and Alakshaya all which received Critic’s Choice Awards. Rajagopalan has been a recipient of the Chicago Dance Award, a Jerome Foundation Grant, a Master Teacher Award from the Illinois Arts Council, an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship, the Woman Warrior Award from Columbia College Chicago, and the Commitment to the Arts Award from Mayor Daley and the City of Chicago.
