Noorjehan Bilgrami

May 4 - May 19, 2017

Pakistani artist, educator, and textile designer Noorjehan Bilgrami engages in a dynamic artist residency at Shangri La in May 2017. During her residency, Bilgrami will install an exhibition titled Under the Molsri Tree at the Honolulu Museum of Art (May 18-September 3, 2017) as well as participate community programs and workshops.

Noorjehan's interest in traditional crafts led to the formation of KOEL in Karachi, an atelier that pioneered the revival of hand-block printed fabrics in Pakistan. She is also one of the founders of the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, and has been a member of the Higher Education Commission for the Government of Pakistan.

As a visual artist, Noorjehan has had group and solo shows at national and international venues. She has traveled extensively and lectured at universities and museums in the United States, Canada, Scandinavia, Australia, the Middle East, India and Japan.
