Ayodele Drum and Dance

February 14, 2020 - February 23, 2020
Chicago-based performing artist collective Ayodele Drum and Dance was featured in a Shangri La Residency from February 14-23, 2020. “Ayodele” is a Yoruba word that means “joy in the home” and the sister-circle collective of performing artists fosters community from a feminine perspective through diasporic African drum and dance, using the artform to heal, educate and motivate in an unending circle firmly rooted in joy.

Ayodele Drum and Dance exists to foster community from a feminine perspective through the study and performance of diasporic African drum and dance. Ayodele, a Yoruba word meaning ''Joy in the home", is a diverse sister-circle of performing artists committed to studying and performing drum and dance as a healing element. The sisters are led by Tosha 'Ayo' Alston and use African drum and dance to educate and motivate young women and children. Whether teaching children, healing the community with classes, producing sold out concerts, studying with female masters or spreading healing energy through performances, Ayodele Drum & Dance remains an unending circle firmly rooted in joy.
