Garin Nugroho is Indonesia's best known filmmaker. His award-winning films have been screened at major film festivals worldwide, including Cannes, Venice and Berlin. He has an extraordinary ability to translate Indonesia’s numerous indigenous languages and cultures into screen stories that resonate with global audiences. Nugroho’s artistic practices include filmmaking, writing and directing theatre productions, installations, curating and organizing film festivals and publishing newspapers. He is currently the director of SET Film Workshop in Jakarta.  His best known feature films include Of Love and Eggs, Under the Tree, The Blue Generation, Opera Jawa, and Blindfold. His latest feature film is The Hijra based on the story of Indonesia’s first president Tjokrominoto.
